AVONDALE, Ariz. - A 19-year-old man is dead after being shot by police officers in the city of Avondale.

According to Avondale police, officers were called to the scene on July 30 where Shaun Nathaniel Walters, 19, was allegedly acting erratically.

Avondale police said Walters displayed a weapon towards the officers outside a Circle K located at the intersection between Avondale Boulevard and McDowell Road, where deadly force was used to stop the suspect.

Walters was immediately taken to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:40 a.m.

The officer was not injured, but will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
