Phoenix man pleads not guilty to toddler's death
PHOENIX -- A 38-year-old man, who along with his wife, was charged with child abuse in the death of their severely malnourished 15-month-old daughter has pleaded not guilty.
Ernest Ingram entered the plea Monday in Maricopa County Superior Court.
Phoenix police responded to the couple's home on July 10 after receiving a call from the mother that the child wasn't breathing. The infant later died at a hospital.
According to police, the parents said the child hadn't seen a doctor since birth because of their religious beliefs.
Police said the girl weighed less than 9 pounds and suffered from profound malnutrition and she had numerous bone fractures.
