Retrial in temple killing in Ariz. set for Aug. 12

PHOENIX -- Prosecutors in a man's retrial in a 1991 mass killing at a Buddhist temple in Arizona are seeking to bar photography or voice-recordings of the testimony of another man who was convicted in the case.

Johnathan Andrew Doody's retrial is scheduled to begin Aug. 12. He was convicted of killing six priests and three other people during a 1991 robbery in the Phoenix area, but a court overturned his convictions.

Co-defendant Alessandro Garcia pleaded guilty to escape the death penalty in exchange for his testimony.

Garcia is serving a life sentence, and prosecutors say photo and voice recordings of his new testimony could label him a "snitch" in prison and put him in danger.

Prosecutors say they fear that could mean Garcia wouldn't be open and honest in his testimony.
