SIERRA VISTA -- Recent rain created sinkholes around 50 graves in Bisbee's city-owned cemetery.

The Sierra Vista Herald reports that city workers spread dirt on the sunken graves, tamped it down and secured grave stones back in place.

Streets operation manager Andy Hartyk says the weight of water and rain-soaked dirt was apparently enough to collapse coffins but that no caskets or remains were exposed.

Hartyk says the work is making the cemetery both safe to visit and presentable for the families.
