PHOENIX -- Phoenix police said a 21-year-old man has been arrested in the death of his girlfriend's 8-month-old daughter.

Officer James Holmes said Adrian Ponce faces eight felony counts of child abuse.

Sabrina Santos-Vasquez was pronounced dead at a hospital Wednesday after authorities received a call about a child not breathing in an apartment at 28th Street and Kathleen Road.

According to police, emergency room medical personnel found eight burns on the baby and a scan revealed brain injury.

Holmes said Ponce admitted to shaking the baby and burning her with a cigarette lighter.
