PHOENIX -- The Arizona Department of Corrections said it will seek criminal prosecution of two inmates at the state prison complex in Winslow for an attack on a corrections officer.

Department spokesman Bill Lamoreaux said the officer is being treated for a broken nose and a broken cheekbone suffered during the attack Friday.

Lamoreaux said the incident, which occurred at the prison complex's Kaibab unit as the inmates were being readied to go to the dining hall, remains under investigation.

The unit is classified as "close" security, a category between medium and maximum security.
