Man arrested in viral video dies after collapsing in jail

PHOENIX — The man whose arrest went viral died Monday after collapsing in a county prison, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office said.
MCSO Deputy Joaquin Enriquez said Matangi Tai was in the recreation yard of the Fourth Avenue Jail when he collapsed.
“All evidence and all possibilities of foul play have been ruled out,” Enriquez said, adding that his agency is awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death.
Tai was charged with aggravated assault against a police officer, resisting arrest and other crimes.
The video of his arrest, which can be seen below, raised questions over the police possibly using excessive force.
