In the wake of the George Zimmerman trial, Sen. John McCain has chosen to stand with President Barack Obama in calling for a review of the so-called "Stand Your Ground" laws.

According NBC News, McCain believes that Arizona should review Stand Your Ground laws in order to unite the country and ease race relations.

"I think that, yes, I do, and I'm confident that the members of the Arizona legislature will because it is a very controversial legislation,"

On Friday, Obama, like many other politicians, began calling for a review of Stand Your Ground laws.

"And for those who resist that idea that we should think about something like these 'Stand Your Ground' laws, I'd just ask people to consider, if Trayvon Martin was of age and armed, could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk?"

Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, publicly disagreed with Obama, claiming the review was just another attack on the Second Amendment. In response to the Texas senator, McCain said:

"Isn't this time for us to try to come together? Isn't it time for America to come together in light of several weeks of what is really exacerbating relations between elements of our society? I'd rather have a message of coming together and discussing these issues rather than condemning, I just respect his view, but I don't frankly see the connection.",
