TUCSON, Ariz. -- The push for civil rights charges against former neighborhood watch leader George Zimmerman has drawn hundreds of people to rallies in Tucson and Phoenix.

The crowd of civil rights and religious leaders, University of Arizona students and others chanted "Tucson, we won't forget" during Saturday's gathering at El Presidio Park.

In Phoenix, some carried signs that read "Our lives matter," and "No justice, no peace."

Rallies were taking place in more than 100 cities around the country on Saturday to demand a federal case. Zimmerman was acquitted last week in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin.

In Tucson, the names of victims of violence and injustice were read aloud.

One of the organizers, Shannon Franklin, said Saturday that people need to be willing to speak up against injustices and laws that precipitate injustice.
