Ariz. wafer company faces fine over lack of permit
PHOENIX -- State authorities say a wafer reclaim services company faces a $120,000 fine for not having an air quality permit at its Prescott facility.
Arizona Department of Environmental Quality officials on Friday announced the civil penalties against Pure Wafer Inc.
During an inspection last year, ADEQ staff reported seeing an emission from the onsite stack that was determined to be hydrogen fluoride.
The inspection also showed the facility didn't have an air quality permit.
Pure Wafer later applied for a permit, which was issued in early January.
Officials at the Prescott facility didn't immediately return a call Friday seeking comment on the $120,000 fine.
Headquartered in the United Kingdom, Pure Wafer prepares reclaimed silicon test wafers for the semiconductor industry.
Pure Wafer operates manufacturing facilities in Prescott and Swansea, South Wales.
