State prison inmate dies at Tucson work site
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Authorities say an Arizona prison inmate is dead from an apparent suicide at an off-site work location in Tucson.
State Department of Corrections officials say 48-year-old Patrick Hoppes was pronounced dead around 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Authorities didn't immediately disclose the manner of death, but KGUN-TV reports that Hoppes was found hanged at the Pima Animal Care Center in Tucson.
Corrections officials say an investigation into Hoppes' death will be led by the DOC's criminal investigation unit in consultation with the county Medical Examiner's Office.
Hoppes was serving a sentence of nine years and three months for trafficking in stolen property.
He was sentenced out of Maricopa County in May 2009 and was housed at the state prison complex in Tucson.
