PRESCOTT, Ariz. -- A bake sale put on by a Prescott family has raised $25,000 for the families of the fallen members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots.
Rebekah Kleinman told the Prescott Daily Courier that her family knew two of the Hotshots who perished and she often speaks with her children about what they can do to help those in need following a tragedy.
Seven-year-old Ava Kleinman's suggestion was to hold a bake sale and she got her little brother involved.
The family baked items for last weekend's sale and other residents donated baked goods. They sold cookies, brownies, muffins and other treats.
Nineteen members of the Hotshot crew died on June 30 when a thunderstorm triggered a wind shift, sending flames from the wildfire they were battling back toward them.
