TUCSON, Ariz. -- A man is in custody for allegedly impersonating a firefighter at the southern Arizona funeral for a hotshot crew member.

Marana police said Thursday that 29-year-old James Patrick Brown is being held on one count of impersonating a public servant and has an outstanding felony warrant for theft out of Maricopa County.

Police said Brown was at Wednesday's funeral procession for 25-year-old William Warneke, one of 19 firefighters who died June 30 while battling the Yarnell wildfire.

They said Brown was in a restricted area of the procession and wearing a Tucson Fire Department T-shirt and hat.

The Arizona Daily Star says Brown falsely told a police officer he worked in Tucson Fire's fleet services and was authorized to be in the procession.
