State Bar closes case against AG Horne over crash
PHOENIX -- The State Bar of Arizona has closed a disciplinary case against Attorney General Tom Horne for a hit-and-run incident without taking disciplinary action.
The Bar said in a Tuesday letter to Horne's lawyer that his no contest plea in the case doesn't show he engaged in criminal activity that would affect his license. More serious offenses are normally required for discipline.
The hit-and-run case came to light as FBI agents trailed Horne while apparently investigating a campaign finance case. That case resulted in a civil complaint filed by Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery. A judge dismissed the case in March for procedural reasons but it is now being reviewed by Yavapai County Attorney Sheila Polk.
The Bar dropped its disciplinary case after the dismissal but said it may be reopened.
