YUMA, Ariz. -- Authorities say a man is dead after an officer-involved shooting in Yuma.
The victim's probation officer contacted the Yuma County Sheriff's Office at about 7:40 a.m. Tuesday to say the man was threatening to harm himself.
Sheriff's officials tried several times to contact the man by cellphone and at his home, but found only an empty handgun case.
Using a cell-phone tracking system, authorities located the man holding a handgun in the remote stretch of agricultural land northeast of Yuma.
Deputies say they told the man to drop his weapon several times. When he failed to do so, four deputies opened fire.
The man was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Sheriff's officials didn't release the man's name and say the shooting is under investigation.
