FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- Authorities say a 2-year-old girl who was hit by a vehicle in the Doney Park neighborhood of Flagstaff has died.

Coconino County Sheriff's officials announced the death Tuesday, but the girl's name wasn't immediately released.

Authorities say the 59-year-old driver of the vehicle says she was driving 25 mph in the neighborhood Monday and slowed to 20 mph when she saw children playing in a yard.

The woman claims the girl ran from the opposite side of the road and was struck by the car.

Medical personnel took the girl to Flagstaff Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead on Monday evening.

Sheriff's officials say no citations or charges have been filed against the driver and the investigation is ongoing.
