A 40-year-old man drowned on Thursday while attempting to swim across the Salt River, according to ABC 15 News.

The incident was first reported to the Maricopa County Sherriff's Office around 4:20 pm on Thursday. The man, whose name was not released, was with another swimmer when he submerged while about 50 yards from shore, according to witnesses. His body was recovered near Blue Point Bridge around 6:00 pm.

Lake Patrol divers recovered the body in approximately 15 feet of water, according to MCSO.
