CORDES JUNCTION, Ariz. -- Arizona transportation officials are warning travelers of a major backup on Interstate 17 north of Phoenix.
Officials say a vehicle fire forced the closure of the northbound lanes near Cordes Junction on Thursday afternoon. By the time the left lane was opened, the backup stretched for 10 miles.
Department of Transportation spokesman Garin Groff says there's no estimated time for when the roadway will be fully opened.
