Female hiker dies in Grand Canyon National Park
GRAND CANYON, Ariz. -- Grand Canyon National Park officials reported that a hiker has died deep inside the canyon in northern Arizona.
Park officials said they were notified Sunday of an unconscious female hiker on Sunday about three quarters of a mile up the South Kaibab Trail from Phantom Ranch.
Rangers responded but were unable to resuscitate the victim, whose body was flown by helicopter out of the canyon.
An autopsy will be conducted to determine cause of death.
The victim's identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives.
