PHOENIX It could be a record-breaking day in Phoenix as the heat wave continues to march across the American Southwest.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 117 degrees Saturday in Arizona's largest city. That's 3 degrees hotter than Friday.

If it gets that hot, forecasters say that will match the record set for this day in 1994.

Extreme heat advisories have been issued for much of Arizona, parts of Nevada and California through the weekend. Forecasters say highs between 115 and 120 degrees will be common across the region.

Some are trying to beat the heat by staying indoors, jumping in the pool or driving north. KSAZ television station reports that Interstate 17 to Flagstaff was backed up Friday and hotels in the mountain community are selling out fast.
