Scottsdale Healthcare, American Cancer Society join forces on new study

PHOENIX -- 300,000 Americans have an opportunity to leave their potentially life-saving mark on the world.

"Not just saying you're making a difference, but to really make a difference," said Director of Oncology at Scottsdale Healthcare, Lindsay Thomas. "Just think, if one person could be spared a cancer diagnosis, how meaningful that would be."

Scottsdale Healthcare has joined forces with the American Cancer Society to enroll local residents in their Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). The study is designed to help researchers better understand the behavioral, environmental, genetic and lifestyle factors that cause or prevent cancer.

"This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity for Americans to participate in lifesaving cancer research and we are excited to be working with American Cancer Society on this," said Thomas in a press release. "We hope it will help us better understand what factors cause cancer and equip us with the knowledge to prevent it for future generations."

The commitment starts with a small donation of blood and follow-up questionnaires over the course of several years.
