MESA, Ariz. -- Authorities say three people are dead after a head-on car crash in Mesa.

Mesa police say a vehicle driven by 46-year-old Bernard Knittel allegedly crossed the center lane and collided with another car Wednesday night.

Police say Knittel died later after being taken to Scottsdale Osborne Hospital.

They say the driver of the other vehicle- 48-year-old Barbara Woods- was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say a front-seat passenger in Woods' car- 40-year-old Marty Woods- also died at the Osborne Hospital.

Another passenger in Woods' vehicle was hospitalized.

The Arizona Republic reports that police suspect Knittel might have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
