NOGALES, Ariz. -- A Rio Rico man has been accused of trying to smuggle $50,000 in unreported cash out of southern Arizona.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials say 22-year-old Rene Becerra-Portillo Jr. was arrested Wednesday.

CBP officers and Border Patrol agents conducting outbound inspections at the Dennis DeConcini Port in Nogales referred Becerra-Portillo for further questioning.

They say he was wearing a uniform from a fast food restaurant and carrying a bag and drink.

Authorities say $50,000 of undeclared currency was found inside the bag.

The cash was seized and Becerra was referred to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.

Authorities didn't immediately know Thursday if Becerra-Portillo had a lawyer yet.
