PHOENIX — Agents of the Tucson Sector Border Patrol stopped a U.S. citizen and seized a large drug shipment Monday that was heading north on Interstate 19.
With the help of a Nogales canine team working at the checkpoint south of Amado, Ariz., agents inspected a tractor-trailer and discovered a false wall inside that was concealing 88 bundles of marijuana, according to a press release from Tucson sector border patrol officials.
The narcotics weighed 2,133 pounds and are worth more than $1 million, officials said. The contraband will be turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
The driver was arrested and will face prosecution.
