SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Firefighters saved an exotic bird from a scorching car in Arizona after authorities said a woman accidentally locked her keys inside.

KTVK-TV reported that Surprise firefighters rescued Rusty the cockatoo last week and gave the large exotic bird oxygen. Officials said Rusty was lying flat in his cage, and was in respiratory distress.

Firefighters saved the bird by placing cool water on him and packing his wings with ice packs.

Authorities said the bird perked up after 15 minutes.

The owner took her bird to an emergency vet and the bird is reportedly back to normal.
