PHOENIX — Dale Hausner, one of the two men convicted in a string of serial shootings, died Wednesday in prison.
Hausner, 40, was found unresponsive in his cell about noon. He was taken to a local hospital and pronounced dead at 1:15 p.m.
Hausner, along with Samuel Dieteman, terrorized the Phoenix area for about 14 months between 2005 and 2006. The two men shot people and animals seemingly at random.
Dieteman later testified against Hausner and plead guilty to two murders in exchange for a life sentence without parole.
Hausner was convicted of 80 crimes, including six counts of first-degree murder, on March 13, 2009. He was sentenced to death.
It is unknown how Hausner died.
