PHOENIX -- A favor for a friend turned into a deadly overnight crash on southbound Interstate 17 near the Anthem area northwest of Phoenix.

The late Monday accident closed the freeway at Daisy Mountain Road until early Tuesday. Large amounts of debris from the two-vehicle accident were on both sides of the freeway.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety said Victor House, 61, died while driving a car his friend bought in Prescott back to the Valley. He was following his friend in the car when an SUV hit him, sending House off the road.

The driver of the SUV left the scene but was tracked down by authorities. The man, who suffered minor injuries, was arrested.
