GLENDALE, Ariz. -- A man is in custody on suspicion of manslaughter for allegedly fatally shooting his friend while playing with a gun.

Glendale police say 20-year-old Joe Autry Colter was arrested early Thursday.

Officers responded to an apartment complex after receiving word that someone had been shot just before midnight Wednesday.

Police entered the apartment and found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper right chest and shoulder area.

He was rushed to a hospital, but later died.

Police say Colter told them he was hanging out playing video games with some friends when he and the victim began joking about the 9mm handgun in his back pocket.

Colter says he pointed the gun at his friend but he didn't know it was still loaded and it discharged.
