MESA, Ariz. -- A Mesa man is hospitalized with second- and third-degree burns after being rescued from his burning residence.

KPHO television reported that a next-door neighbor stepped outside after smelling smoke and then spotted the man hanging from a second-floor window by one arm Sunday evening.

Chris Hansen's wife called 911 but he said the home was engulfed in flames so he told the man to jump and helped him down.

Hansen said the man is blind and lives alone with a dog.

The dog was found on a patio, frightened but OK.

Cause of the fire is under investigation.
