FLORENCE, Ariz. -- Pinal County authorities say a stray dog is expected to recover after being found with gunshot wounds and severe dehydration in San Tan Valley.

Arizona Cattle Dog Rescue took the dog after it was rescued Monday by Pinal County Animal Care and Control officers.

The female Queensland Heeler was located after responding to calls about a stray dog in the area.

An animal control officer noticed the dog had gunshot wounds on its hind quarters and wasn't able to stand.

The dog is estimated to be about a year old and has been recently spayed.

County officials said Tuesday that they still are trying to find the dog's owner.
