Mesa seeking donations to aid homeless in hot weather

MESA, Ariz. — Homeless people in the Valley are vulnerable during the extreme summer heat and the City of Mesa is working to provide them with water.
Mesa has launched their annual Mesa Hydration Donation Campaign to ensure that the needy stay hydrated and healthy this summer.
Community members are encouraged to drop off water at one of several locations in Mesa. The donations will be distributed to homeless shelters through the United Way.
Last year, 320,386 bottles of water were donated during the campaign, an increase in donations of nearly 100,000 bottles from the previous year, according to statistics provided by the City of Mesa.
Drop off locations and times are as follows:
Mesa Fire Department Volunteer Center, 2830 E. Adobe
24-hour drop-off at Volunteer Center door
Red Mountain Multigenerational Center, 7550 E. Adobe
5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday
8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday
Rhodes Aquatics Complex, 1860 S. Longmore
1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday
1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday to Friday
United Food Bank, 245 S. Nina Drive
7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday
Collection bins will be available on evenings and weekends.
