PHOENIX -- A hatchet-carrying homeless man is accused of breaking into a Chandler home and attempting to sexually assault a female who was sleeping.

Maricopa County prosecutors said 19-year-old Francisco Antonio Moreno was ordered held on $108,000 bond after his court appearance Monday.

Moreno was arrested Saturday morning on suspicion of burglary, attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and preventing the use of a telephone in an emergency.

Police said the victim was awakened by a man she didn't know pulling down her pants.

The man is accused of grabbing a hatchet that he had placed on a nightstand near the bed as the victim grabbed her cellphone. They struggled over the phone, during which time the victim's left wrist was cut with the hatchet.

The suspect then fled.
