PHOENIX -- A woman accused of trying to give her baby away to strangers outside a Phoenix convenience store last month has pleaded not guilty in the case.

Maricopa County prosecutors said 36-year-old Rozenna Luna entered her plea at her arraignment Monday. Her next scheduled court appearance is July 18.

Phoenix police said officers were called to the store at 2341 W. Bethany Home Road on May 15.

Witnesses told officers that Luna was asking strangers if they wanted a free child, her 6-month-old daughter.

Police said Luna admitted she'd been drinking and smoking methamphetamine two days before the incident.

They said she made no attempt to contact any safe haven locations, government agencies or family members for help.

Police also said Luna had outstanding misdemeanor warrants. The baby remains in state custody.
