MESA, Ariz. -- A Mesa man has been ordered held on $800,000 bond in connection with a double stabbing that left one victim dead.
Maricopa County prosecutors say 25-year-old Stephen Alfred Escalante had his initial court appearance Friday.
He's being held on suspicion of second-degree murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Mess police say Escalante was arrested late Wednesday after two men were stabbed at his apartment.
Police say Escalante came home about 11:30 p.m and found his girlfriend and the two men drinking.
They said Escalante became upset and stabbed the men. Both were taken to a Mesa hospital and one man died.
A status conference in Escalante's case was scheduled for June 6.
Court officials say Escalante can't afford a lawyer and will be represented by a public defender.
