Ex-Arizona prison staffer convicted of inmate abuse
PHOENIX -- A former staffer at a federal prison facility in Phoenix has been convicted of sexually abusing two inmates.
Federal prosecutors say a jury on Tuesday found 49-year-old Jose Arnulfo Martinez guilty on six counts of sexual abuse of a ward.
The Phoenix resident is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 26.
Prosecutors say each conviction for sexual abuse of a ward carries a prison sentence of up to 15 years and/or a $250,000 fine.
Martinez worked for the Bureau of Prisons at the Federal Correctional Institution-Phoenix.
Prosecutors say the evidence at trial showed that Martinez sexually abused an inmate on three different occasions in 2008 and did the same to another inmate three times in 2010.
