Over 550 DUI arrests made over Memorial Day weekend

PHOENIX — More than 500 people were arrested on suspicion of DUI over the Memorial Day holiday, the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety said in a release.
In total, 559 people were arrested after a total of 13,002 traffic stops, a slight rise from the 547 arrests over the same weekend in 2012.
Drivers arrested in 2013 had the highest average blood-alcohol content, 0.153, since 2009. The state DUI limit is 0.08.
There was also an uptick in the number of underage DUIs and underage liquor citations.
In total, 1,659 officers participated in holiday weekend DUI task forces across Arizona.
