Convicted murdered Jodi Arias will remain in the custody of the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as she awaits a new penalty phase trial, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said in a statement.
Arias is being housed at the all-female Estrella Prison and is confined for 23 hours per day in her cell. She has been in MCSO custody for five years.
Arpaio said that he would not permit Arias to give any media interviews as she is a closed-custody inmate.
The penalty phase of the Arias trial was declared a mistrial on Thursday because of a hung jury.
A new penalty phase is scheduled to begin July 18.
