PHOENIX — A man who may own the vehicle that was involved in a hit-and-run that killed a Phoenix police officer is in custody.
Jesus Cabrera Molina was taken into custody Monday by Surprise police charged with drug possession. He had been pulled over by police, according to documents, because he was driving a vehicle that matched the description of the SUV that hit and killed Phoenix police officer Daryl Raetz.
During the traffic stop, police found a bag that Molina admitted contained cocaine. Molina also said he was not an American citizen.
Raetz, 29, was working a DUI case at 51st and Cambridge avenues at 3:30 a.m. Sunday when he was hit by an SUV. The six-year veteran was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
