PHOENIX — A West Valley high school student crossing the street was struck by a car and killed Tuesday morning in Glendale.

Police said Jeremy Skramstad was on foot in the intersection at 61st Avenue and Cactus Road around 7 a.m. The 17-year-old attended Peoria High School in the Peoria Unified School District.

Authorities said Skramstad was walking against the traffic light and that there were no signs of impairment in the woman who was driving.

A vigil is being held at 7 p.m. at Desert Valley Park, located at Sweetwater and 61st Avenue. Students from Ironwood High School, where Skramstad previously attended, are hosting the vigil.
