YUMA, Ariz. -- Federal agents have arrested 12 Mexican nationals accused of smuggling drugs into the United States and seized hundreds of pounds of marijuana.

U.S. Border Patrol agents working in southern Arizona made the arrests Friday and Sunday.

Agents using night vision equipment say they spotted a group of six people carrying 219 pounds of marijuana near Gila Bend on Friday. Another group of five people were found carrying 236 pounds of marijuana near Sentinel.

The Border Patrol says those arrested were turned over to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.

On Sunday, agents took a man into custody who was watching over 109 pounds of marijuana near the Mohawk Mountains.

The Border Patrol estimates the street value of the drugs at $282,000.
