Phoenix gun buyback runs out of gift cards
PHOENIX ó Organizers of Phoenix's second gun buyback are lauding the event as a success.
In less than two hours, organizers ran out of grocery store gift cards for those who brought handguns, rifles and other guns to exchange.
Police Sgt. Steve Martos tells television station KTVK that a total of 176 guns were collected Saturday.
The first buyback events put together the previous Saturday by Phoenix police, the mayor and Arizonans for Gun Safety brought in more than 800 guns. The guns were collected at three area churches.
This weekend's buyback was reduced to one location.
Police will process all the weapons to see if any are stolen or linked to any crimes. Those that aren't turned into evidence or returned to their rightful owners will be destroyed.
