PHOENIX — The city of Phoenix wants to teach people the difference between a Facebook message, tweet and hashtag.

City officials have scheduled a free workshop on social media practices Thursday night at the Burton Barr Central Library.

The event is aimed at teaching neighborhood leaders and others how to use social media to make a difference while staying safe online.

A hashtag is the use of a number sign to convey a subject so that it can be indexed and accessed by others. It is used on Twitter and Instagram.
