PHOENIX -- Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has honored 28 fallen Arizona Department of Public Safety officers and plans to attend a second service later Monday commemorating all 308 officers who have died across the state.

Brewer called the memorial ceremony at DPS headquarters Monday morning a `soul-searching'' event. She says it reminded her of the risks officers take every day and the sacrifices their families make.

She's scheduled to speak at the annual Arizona Peace Officers Memorial Service at the Capitol Monday evening. Two officers who died last year are being honored.

Maricopa County sheriff's Deputy David Wargo died May 1, 2012 of injuries he suffered nine years before. U.S. Border Patrol agent Nicholas Ivie was killed Oct. 2 in a friendly fire incident near the Arizona-Mexico border.
