PHOENIX -- A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison after being convicted in a fatal shooting at a north Phoenix park.
Maricopa County prosecutors say Brandon Roberts was sentenced Friday and won't be eligible for parole for 25 years.
A jury found Roberts guilty of first-degree murder in March.
He was accused of killing 78-year-old Milton Raffle, who was shot on his nightly walk through the park in July 2011.
Authorities say Roberts and another then-teenager were buying drugs when Raffle happened to come upon them in the park.
They say Roberts stalked Raffle in an attempt to rob him and then shot him. Raffle later died at a hospital.
Phoenix police say the murder weapon was stolen in an unrelated burglary several days before the shooting.
