YUMA -- Authorities say a 3-year-old boy is dead in Yuma and his grandmother is in custody.

Yuma police say officers responded to a report of a child with a gunshot wound about 7:45 a.m. Wednesday.

They say the boy was taken to Yuma Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police say it appears the boy came into possession of his grandmother's handgun.

They say 35-year-old Rachel Spry was later arrested and booked into the Yuma County Detention Center.

Police say she's being held on suspicion of manslaughter, misconduct involving weapons, possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

They say the case remains under investigation.

Police didn't know Wednesday night if Spry has an attorney yet.
