Arizona man sentenced in NM drug trafficking case

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- An Arizona man has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison in New Mexico in a drug trafficking case.

Prosecutors say 46-year-old Jesse Bruner, of Douglas, also was sentenced Tuesday to three years of supervised release.

Bruner and a co-defendant were arrested by U.S. Border Patrol agents in April 2011 in Hidalgo County, N.M.

Agents reported finding nearly 240 pounds of marijuana in a vehicle that had Bruner as a passenger.

Bruner was later charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute.

He pleaded guilty in October 2011 and has been in federal custody since his arrest.

The charges against the co-defendant- a 72-year-old woman from Kentucky- were dismissed. Authorities say they determined Bruner deceived and threatened the woman into participating in his drug-trafficking activities.
