A woman was attacked by a bobcat Sunday night in Show Low, Ariz.

Bruce Sitko with the Arizona Game and Fish Department said the woman was in a neighborhood when the animal lunged at her.

"The young woman that was attacked received a few bites and scratches to her thigh," he said, adding that the woman was hospitalized and is being treated for rabies as a precaution.

Sitko said the bobcat was killed because Navajo County Sheriff's Office deputies believed it posed a danger to more people. It's carcass is being tested for rabies.

The victim is expected to recover.
