Inmate at state prison in Florence dies in custody
FLORENCE, Ariz. -- Authorities say an inmate at the state prison in Florence is dead and suicide is suspected.
Arizona Department of Corrections officials say 41-year-old Joaquin Tamayo died while in custody Monday.
Details of the death weren't immediately released Tuesday.
DOC officials say Tamayo was sentenced out of Maricopa County and was serving a five-year sentence for armed robbery.
He entered the state prison system on March 12 and was being housed at Eyman complex in Florence.
DOC officials say all inmate deaths are investigated in consultation with the county Medical Examiner's Office.
