PHOENIX -- Phoenix police say an officer fatally shot a 22-year-old man who during a fight with police was preparing to strike his partner with a wood table leg.
Investigators say the man who was killed had been acting erratically, had destroyed mailboxes at the apartment complex where the shooting occurred and threatened to hurt neighbors on Saturday night.
The man's identity hasn't been released.
Officers say they tried to get the man to leave the apartment he was in, but he refused and started a fight by pulling an officer into the apartment.
Police say they subdued the man, but he broke away, grabbed the table leg and raised it in an attempt to hit an officer.
Another officer then drew his gun and shot the man, who later died.
