TEMPE, Ariz. -- A Tempe attorney is in custody for allegedly shooting and wounding his girlfriend's former boyfriend.

Tempe police say 48-year-old Joseph Palmisano was arrested after Thursday morning's shooting. He's being held on suspicion of attempted murder, aggravated assault and kidnapping.

The shooting victim's name wasn't immediately released, but police say he's hospitalized in serious condition.

Police say Palmisano and the man met in the parking lot of a business complex and the altercation ended in a shooting.

Officers responded to the scene about 8:40 a.m. and say the victim was taken to a hospital and Palmisano was detained for questioning.

Several schools in the area were placed on precautionary lockdowns until police had fully secured the scene, searched the business complex and identified the shooting suspect. No other injuries were reported.
